Karyphi, near Phinakaria Village (Grid Ref WD 090446 - OS Map Sheet ??)
Description This launch point takes an ENE wind, facing approx 070 degs. It is a very clean area on the eastern end of a long east/west running ridge at the top of a prominent hill, about 380m amsl. This steep ridge overlooks Germasogiea reservoir to the north. To your left you will see Kyparisha launch and straight ahead you will see Epilas and Stavrovouni in the distance. The area immediately in front of launch is generally soarable if there is a decent breeze. There is a small landing field immediately in front of and about 200' below the launch point. You should also be able to head off left of launch and make the normal LS for Kyparisha, about 1km to the north. Recovery is fairly quick from there, mostly on good roads. If you land just in front of launch where you parked your car you can walk back up again of course.
Access Access is good, apart from the last section, which is on a steep dirt track. You can drive on the main road to this dirt track, which requires a 4x4. You have to walk up the last (steep) 100m to the launch on the end of the ridge.
Directions From Limassol head east on the highway to junction 24. Turn off the highway and head north towards Germasogiea. Drive through the village and after about 3kms turn right across the Germasogiea reservoir. Follow the road up towards Phinakaria village and just before the church take the first right turn up a small road which soon turns into a dirt track. After about 500m take the first turn right. The track makes a 90 right sweep then a 180 back to the left. Here it becomes very steep. Carry on up this track (if you have the bottle) until it levels out and there is a clear area to your left (this is the LS) and a white cross in front of you. Park here and look right. Walk straight up to the end of the ridge, where you will find the launch point.
