Zeuss Nose (Moutti tou Dhia)    (Grid Ref VD 960785 - OS Map Sheet ??)

Description  This launch point takes a northerly (NNW/NNE) wind.  It is a short spine back ridge at the top of a prominent hill 2,641' amsl.  It is not really soarable due to its dimensions, but is an ideal place to take off to catch thermals coming off the flat, dry plains to the north in the direction of Morphou Bay.

Access  The drive up to find the launch point at Zeuss Nose north of Troodos is via 4.5 kms of reasonable dirt track, but much of it needs a 4x4 because of the loose surface.  The last 500m is very steep.  You may not get all the way up even in a 4x4 vehicle.  It would be a very tough walk with a hang glider.

Directions  In Limassol turn off the highway at Jct 28 towards Troodos.  Follow the main road all the way up and pass the signs for Mount Olympus and Platres, continuing towards Nicosia.  Continue north past Kakopetria and Evrykhou.  After a further 1km turn right at a crossroads signposted Ayios Theodoros.  After about 2kms you arrive at a T junction.  Take the left turn onto a dirt track signposted Ayios Ioannis 11kms.  Follow the main dirt track for about 2kms and you will see a sign with a paraglider and hang glider on it.  Keep going and look out for another sign which will point you up a steep right fork off the main track.  Take this turn and the road contours around the hill.  You arrive at a point where the track turns right up the spur towards the peak.  This is where the track becomes very steep and it may be best to start walking the last 500m.  The track climbs steadily and ends at the launch point.
